Mumbai Terrorists Used Google Earth, GPS

It's been reported previously that the terrorists who attacked Mumbai last week used Blackberrys to coordinate their assault, which left 172 dead so far. Now authorities in India have revealed that the terrorists used Google Earth to plan their movements, and GPS to stick to the plan. Google has been criticized by governments around the world, including India, for making available information useful to terrorists on Google Earth.

Yes, we should shut down Google Earth so terrorists can't find out where things are! They couldn't possibly find targets on paper maps like AAA distributes for free.

Jackasses.

If the terrorists are serious, they can still get the same data themselves - it just takes a little longer.

But with all of this info publicly available, now the regular citizen has knowledge to help fight back quickly, to find cover from destruction quickly, and to help improve defenses without having to become a top secret policeman.

If many people have the same high quality knowledge, and open dialog is allowed, then good things collectively will happen over time.

Otherwise, we'd all still be hiding under our desk when we saw a flash of light. Would you prefer to think that a desk will save you from an atomic bomb, or you would rather know where the nuclear power plants in the US are?

Are those countries also angry about things like maps being widely available? How about we outlaw cell phones too so the terrorists can't communicate? No matter what technology is out there, a nasty person is going to find a way to exploit it.

Let's see if I understand this right. US intelligence warned India about the attacks and which buildings were targeted and it's Google's fault that people died?
