Is NBC Breaking Anti-Spam Laws?
That's not a rhetorical question. I honestly don't know. Once upon a time, there was a handy service called Rmail that would send you RSS feeds by e-mail. It's creator, Randy Morin, sold Rmail to NBC in April of 2007. NBC changed the name to SendMeRss, and continued offering the service. I recommended SendMeRss to The Raw Feed readers, and even posted a link to it on my home page as the "official" method for getting The Raw Feed delivered by e-mail. For everyone who has signed up, the service still delivers RSS feeds. However, the Web site (www.sendmerss.com) has been down for about two weeks, and the e-mail link to unsubscribe has been delivering an error during that time as well. So here's the question: If e-mailed content is from an RSS feed, and you voluntarily signed up for it, is it a violation of the anti-spam laws to make it impossible to unsubscribe, and impossible to contact the people in charge? (Meanwhile, I now use FeedMyInbox for Raw Feeders who want to get this blog via e-mail -- click on the "E-Mail Version" link on the right-side menu if you'd like to get The Raw Feed via e-mail.)

Gee, I'm trying to get as much OUT of my email and on to my RSS feeds as I can. Am I going backwards?
I believe feed readers AND receiving feeds through email both have good uses. So you are not going backwards :-).
Either way, thanks for mentioning our service, FeedMyInbox.com. We are glad to have you as a customer, and promise to obey the all important anti-spam laws.
Ah interesting article, I was wondering if anyone else was have the same issue of them sending RSS feeds but the website unavailable. I haven't received any emails in the last 2 days, so maybe they disabled it permanently now? Does anyone know of a similar service? I just dont like using RSS readers... but maybe I will go back to that.
I, too, am annoyed that they stopped this service.
I am using rssfwd now for most things. It's annoying that all emails are from them now, whereas sendmerss showed the email as coming from the blog name.
Let me start by apologizing. I never imagined that NBC would screw all their users when I sold them the website. I’m thoroughly embarrassed and beg your forgiveness. This is the worst nightmare of my life.
I tried to get NBC to fix the problems, but I failed. Eventually, I filled a spamming report with the FTC against NBC because of the issue you mention and they promptly shutdown the service. Not exactly what I wanted, but at least you don't get emails without the ability to unsub. Again, very sorry!
Forget antispam laws. These guys screwed me by shutting down their service without any warning. I lost many subscriptions. I lost even more subscribers. F'em. Old market companies just don't get it.
