Here's a picture of Microvision's incredibly small projector, designed to be OEMed into cell phones. It's fully functional and in-focus at any distance. I want one.

I think you need to check your source. This looks like a competitor's engine. Microvision's projector is smaller than this and doesn't need a focusing lens.
