Facebook Rats Out Dude Who Called In Sick
A Sydney, Australia, telco employee called in sick. Unfortunately for him, he updated his Facebook status thus: "Kyle Doyle is not going to work, f--- it i'm still trashed. SICKIE WOO!" ("Sickie" is Australian for "calling in sick.") His boss saw it, and was kind enough to capture a screen grab, circle the offending status update and e-mail it to Kyle.

Just as some people become alcoholics and some don't, or some can't drive, or others can't tell left from right, so it is that some people can't navigate the differences between private, semi-private, and public. This guy seems to be an otherwise intelligent person - it's worrying that he (and others) have made what seem to be huge elementary mistakes in terms of their privacy. As we enter the age of global online interaction, this is actually quite worrying.
We're getting a new wave of Facebook users right now. A bunch of my peers (read: adults) are getting on-line and into social networking for the first time.
The other day on public walls there was a big conversation about one of these friends getting an "abdominal hysterectomy." Seriously, this is not the type of information for public wall space.
