Mini PC Sold As -- Wait For It! -- "Almost Fanless"
What will they think of next? Shuttle PR is pitching a mini PC called the Barebone X27 by saying the system is "ALMOST FANLESS." Does that mean they were planning to ship it without a fan, but changed their minds at the last minute?

Mike,
It means that, aside from you, it has no fans ;)

My guess is that there's a fan, but it doesn't run continuously and only turns on when there's a high temp condition. This could give a good cost savings and possibly some longevity (or the constant starting and stopping could kill both).
Sorry, meant *power* cost savings above...
Mike,
If you follow the links thru to the x27 on the Shuttle page they have "Hotspot information for Shuttle Barebone X27"

The pictures show a CPU fan but no case fan. Lots of big holes though. And the power is supplied by an external DC power pack. (Brick)
So as fanless as they can make it but... What a way to say it. :-)
Maybe they are going with a piezoelectric fan. They are more expensive, but qualify as "almost" a fan.
I think it's fanless for countries with AC, countries without AC would have to use the following solution:
"Countries without a working AC unit would use an oscillating fan not oscillating in front of the unit, this will provide ample cooling." Quoted from the air...
Have fun!!
