The company opened a shiny new Apple store in Beijing Saturday -- the "first of many" in China, according to an Apple official. The race is on. But is this an event Apple can win? China is a coveted market. But so far, things aren't going well. The problem is that APPLE IS SIMPLY INCOMPATIBLE WITH CHINA. Here's why.

Hey what do you know! Comunist apple in comunist china! A match made in heaven.
The irony here is that chinese people have more freedom to buy the electronics they want from who ever they want it from while apple forces you to buy what Apple thinks is good for you.
Heck, maybe some good could come from this. Maybe the chinese can force apple to open up and embrace democracy.
Mike, why do you say Apple "must" do business with China? There is no reason in the world they have to. They make lots of money working with the countries that they do business with already. There are many companies that don't do business with China and/or other countries and these companies still grow and change.

China is the 3rd largest consumer of luxury goods.
Q1 2008: 9 million smart phones sold
Average price of those phones, in US dollars: $350
