Vista: The Instant Decaf of Operating Systems

Microsoft's "Mojave Experiment" has been compared to "Punk'd," and to the "Pepsi Challenge." In reality, it's just like those Folgers Crystals commercials where they switch fancy restaurant coffee with instant decaf. The commercials were a big success. But guess what? Instant decaf still sucks! I'm challenging Microsoft to answer SIX QUESTIONS about their so-called "Mojave Experiment."

Mike, your article is brilliant and insightful!

Hope it gets forwarded as is to MS.

Methinks corporate America has becoming so confident of its marketing ability that it sometimes trumps the product itself - Vista as a case in point.

Keep up the great analysis and keep-it-real writing style!

I think you are incredibly hypocritical. You're upset because Microsoft is trying to show people that the real reason they don't like vista is because of people like you. If you're so sure that this ad campaign won't work because you KNOW that everybody who tries vista will hate it, then why are YOU telling people not to try it? I have been using vista both at work and at home for some time now, and have found not one single solitary problem. Everyone is just being told by people like you that vista is terrible, don't use it. Then if they do end up using it even for a few minutes, they decide you were right because something doesn't work the same way as it did in XP. Interfaces change, get over it, and learn how to use the new interfaces with an open mind. If we never did that, then we would all still be using command line to do everything, and mice would be that stupid crazy idea some asshole tried to get us to use.

The bottom line, which Microsoft was trying to tell people, is that it seems people who don't use vista, for some reason think it is the worst thing to ever happen to computers (mainly because of biased blogging, like this one), and people who use vista, seem to like it.

If you remember how much criticism XP got when it first came out, I would never have believed back then that all these same people would say they want XP to come back when it went away. Put simply, you guys like to bitch.

So to everyone who read this blog and decided not to try vista, you're falling into this guys trap. He's saying the campaign is bad because it doesn't let the people try the computers, but he is also telling you not to try the computers. Vista really isn't bad, it is actually very useful and offers far more security and features than XP did. Spend a couple days getting used to the subtle differences in the interface, it is well worth it.
