New Sensor Turns Off Sprinklers When It Rains

Plant water timers and scheduled lawn sprinklers are great. But when your sprinklers go on during a torrential downpour, you feel like a schmuck and pay for water you didn't need. Now, a new $31 RAIN SENSOR from a company called Claber turns off your sprinklers when it rains. Brilliant.

Not to throw cold water onto the new technology, but... They've had these for years. We installed a new irrigation system (residential) right about a year ago and I have a wireless rain sensor that halts watering if it rained - it resumes depending on how long and how much rain it put out. Nice that it's wireless too...

Yeah, my house was built 5 years ago and the irrigation system put in while it was being built has a built-in system to measure the amount of water in the soil and adjust sprinkler timings, etc. based on that.

Still very cool tech, just not really new
