The Mouse Is Dead
You're probably using a mouse today, but you may never buy one again. All the planets are aligning against the humble mouse. Alternative pointing devices are weakening our mouse habit. But the next versions of Windows and the Mac OS will KILL THE MOUSE forever.

care for a friendly wager on that prediction?
definitely wont happen in the gaming community.
Bad prediction: I don’t honestly think you believe this yourself as it will never happen in the next ten years.. The mouse is simply the Laziest and most precise input method available, touch and even surface require too much effort, with voice being annoying to others.. leaving mind control as the only viable alternative which falls into the 10 year deadline..
I see everyone using something that looks like an iPhone, to control their computer. But when push comes to shove, it is nothing more than a glorified Wacom tablet, and they have been around a long time. I don't want a big-monster coffee table/computer in my living room. This is an idea that will be great for hotels and casinos, but for personal use, pretty much off the mark, showing you how much Microsoft is out of touch with what ordinary folk can afford/use/want.
I dunno. I wouldn't mind having a giant touch screen drafting board style touch screen computer in my office. Imagine the resolution!!
I still find it hard to believe that the mouse will die completely. Gamers love their mice, ya you can use analog sticks but I know many gamers that swear by their twitch skills.
And perhaps having to move our arms around more will give us computer geeks a good upper body workout.
Mucho agreement with Anon#3 -- I don't even have to lift my wrist to use a mouse. I already have a touchpad on my laptop. Do I use it? Nope.
Mike, I'd really like some of whatever you're smoking. But really, I'd love you to fly this info by Quakecon or any other similar event and convince people of this without getting laughed at. Currently, nothing else has the precision or accuracy within FPS or similarly titled games or applications.
Good thing we are going to the touchscreen computers,no mouse needed now you can practice so when the market crasehs your ready to work at mcdonals...
Yes... our traditional mouse will be replaced someday late... but it's isn't in the near future. our technology is not that advance yet.. but it's true, some of the hardware developer already work on it, but still, it's gonna tak a long time, before all the user gonna get used to it...
Wow, humorously off-accuracy blogpost.
What will happen, is that hauptics mice will become more common (3d/magnetic feedback)...followed by hauptics physical feedback devices (non-mouse)....but that is a bit aways
