Was Windows XP Microsoft's Last Good OS?
Everybody's talking today about "Drivergate" — internal Microsoft e-mails that show senior Microsoft executives personally struggling to use hardware products sporting the "Windows Vista Capable" sticker. The e-mails also show that Microsoft lowered its standard for some hardware compatibility, apparently to help Intel impress Wall Street.
This revelation is simply the latest in a long series that add up to one inescapable conclusion: Windows Vista sucks.
Windows Mobile, Microsoft's operating system for cell phones, suffers from a similar problem. The Windows Mobile OS isn't horrible per se, it's just that it's completely wrong for cell phones and other small screen devices.
The biggest problem isn't that the company's newest products are unusable, but that Microsoft may have actually LOST THE ABILITY to make good operating systems.

I never buy stuff from Winblows!!! MAC user forever! Use of a Apple a day, keeps the Viruses away....
It would certainly help to adopt Apple's stance of only allowing the OS to run on proprietary hardware, but with any luck this could spur some more development on the Linux application support front. Having a free Linux core with a choice of paid GUI front ends (including front ends from MS and Apple as well as smaller parties) would be an excellent option.
your question leads me to wonder if you are qualified to comment/report on technology at all. 3.1 was windows last good OS. mac not withstanding.
Microsoft needs Bill Gates get back. Nothing better than a nerd for technology products.
I donb't see anything different with Vista. I like Windows but i recently went to some lengths to get XP Pro when I bought a new computer last month - not because I think that's the last decent OS Windows will make but because I've made it a practice over the years never to buy any new OS before Service Pack 1.
'Twas ever thus. In time, Vista will be worth running, prvoding you have the hardware to run it.
Windows 98, 2nd Edition was the 1968 Chvrolet Impala of OS's.
