Wal-Mart Won't Sell HD-DVD Players Or Movies

HD-DVD is dead. NetFlix announced this week that it won't rent HD-DVD. Best Buy announced that it will sell, but won't promote or recommend, HD-DVD players. Toshiba is expected to kill its line of HD-DVD players. This morning, Wal-Mart finished HD-DVD off by announcing that it won't sell HD-DVD players or HD-DVD movies after June. GAME OVER. In just one week, HD-DVD has gone from being a serious contender to being tossed on the ashheap of history as the new Betamax. We hardly knew ye. Digg it here.

S'ok. Sony is going to have to make a lot of adjustments to BR before I even consider buying one of the discs anyway. Unfinalized formats ftl.

I hate to see a Sony-proprietary format when, but at least it's over. With any luck the win will be short-lived and we'll be able to download HD videos easily soon without all the Sony "features".
