TV Remote Surfs the Web, Confuses Users
A new home theater remote-control from Tvcompass called the SR 1500 Digital Media Remote runs Windows CE, CONNECTS TO THE INTERNET via WiFi and enables couch potatoes to surf the web. Tvcompass will sell the device through satellite and cable operators and others, who can customize the remote. Because consumers are screaming for more complexity in their home theater systems. One Holly Grail for remotes is to include a display for your TV guide, program/movie info, metadata from your media server, TiVo, etc. so that you don't have to interrupt your TV program with menu's on TV screen. Having a smart enough remote with wifi could theoretically get you there (with great software), or it could just confuse the crap out of someone...
Apart from all the bells and whistles, the remote is also designed to be 'the best remote control'. For that, it includes features like 'activities' designed to make the operation of your home theater equipment easier, not harder...
