Tech for On-Screen Fluids Wins Academy Award

An associate professor of computer science at Stanford named Ron Fedkiw and two eggheads at Industrial Light and Magic will be given an ACADEMY AWARD Feb. 9 for the computer-generated fluid technology used in the creation of CGI oceans in two "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies, dragon's breath in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" and floodwaters in "Evan Almighty."
