A huge American spy satellite has lost power, and will FALL TO EARTH AND CRASH, possibly in Late February or March. The satallite "no longer can be controlled, could contain hazardous materials, and it is unknown where on the planet it might come down," according to Washington Post sources.

How big is it? Where might it land?
I'm afraid it's nearly as large as the CIA satellite that wiped out the dinosaurs, smoke 'em if you've got 'em cause it's game over for us!
It's a satellite, the chances of it making it through the atmosphere in chunks large enough to actually see are remote. If it does make it through, you've got a 75% chance it'll hit water. Even if it actually does hit land the chances that it hits a populated area are next to nothing. If it makes you feel better you can walk around with an umbrella for the next few days, otherwise just treat it like one of the thousands of objects that fall from space every day.

This spy satellite has size of a bus,10 ton (Skylab was 78 ton, M.I.R. 160t) will burn enterning atmosphere. But not totally, some of it will reach Earth's surface.
So brick size things will fall very fast. Satellite speed are usually 8-10km/s. The burning starts at 80.000 meters altitude.
Shoot it down you say? At that speed no chance, I think.

ITS A SPY SATELLITE, do you think our government is going to allow SPY equipment to hit the ground and be scavenged by foreign countries? If it doesnt burn out in the atmosphere, it will burn when the shoot it down.
when will the government let us know where it is headed so we can prepare ? The better question....will they tell us where it is headed at all when they know ?

im an aussie i know for a fact it was going to land near one of our major citys perth it was shot in hope it would be destroyed before impact
It was due to hit near Perth WA, and would have exposed an area about the size of two football fields to a very toxic gas. The satellite itself was not what they were worried about, it was the contents of the fuel tank igniting as it burnt up. Usually when satellites fall, there tanks aren't full.
It was successfully destroyed by a missile fired from an American Ticonderoga class destroyer. I personally know the USN Chief who refits and refurbishes the VLS launchers on American ships at Pearl Harbour in Hawaii, as he helped out with a certain Australian ships firing late last year. On behalf of all Aussies, I will pass on a very sincere thankyou to all the USN Gunners Mates who stopped this potential disaster. The satellite was destroyed on Wednesday, and debris from the satellite has started to re-enter the atmosphere over the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
