The Apple Fanboy Dream Comes True

Apple fanboys have long harbored the dream for Apple to clobber everyone -- especially Microsoft -- and dominate the computer and electronics industries. That dream -- kept alive now by more than two decades of faithful fans -- is now becoming a reality. At some point during 2007 -- it's impossible to say when -- Apple crossed some kind of invisible line, moving for the first time in 20 years from "niche" to "mainstream." The dream, now realized, has turned out to be a NIGHTMARE FOR FANBOYS.

As an Apple fanboy and investor, I welcome all those who chose to make the move to Mac. That article is absolute hogwash and FUD. I don't fear Apple making their software more Windows like... Apple software is why some many people are making the switch. The entire world would benefit from simple, straightfoward computing. Think of it as the beginning of the emancipation.

as an Apple fanboy, I hate the fanatic fans who speak for the rest of us making a comparison that Apple is elite and superior to Windows. It's much worse what the Mac vs Windows commercials can do suggesting that mac is without any problems... I've already upgraded to Leopard 10.5 (I call it Leotard). I swear to god, it is the worse mistake I ever made. My browser crashes at least once or twice a day, and I can't unmount disk images that get mounted. Apple has turned into a Microsoft with the pressure of rolling out its new operating system too soon without thorough testing.

Your article had the best use of the word "goober" that I've seen in a long, long time. Great work!

Thanks for restoring my faith in at least some Mac fans, Anon#2. I'm reminded of the BBC series My Family where it was explained that in a Labor-dominated government the Tories are the revolutionaries trying to chance the status quo :)

I am not sure if I am a fanboy, but I do have a couple of macs, and a couple of pc's. I have had great luck with Tiger and 0 probems Upgrading to Leopard.

I am happy that the intel macs allow me to run my windows apps with Fusion so I can use a mac for work.

After wasting two days of work wrestling with a .net 1.1 installer disaster on a Vista box, I am not surprised there is a lot of switching.

I am curious to see how security issues play out as Macs get a greater market share, I have to assume there will be more security issues in the future. Hopefully they will be handled with more elegance than they are currently managed by microsoft and other vendors of Anti Productivity Suites.

matt, since you have a mac with leopard and a couple of PCs, do the following experiment:
1. From your PC, create a share that is publicly accessible and writable.
2. From your mac, mount a disk image (download a .DMG file from anything). Then umount it. It works, yes? Ok, now mount the PC share that you've created. Now close all Finder windows. Open a Finder window, click on the share.. More than likely, you'll be unable to access your share after a few times. Try to click the Eject button next to your share. This will fail.

3. Mount a .DMG file and try to unmount it. You won't be able to. A workaround: to unmount network shares, you'd have to bring up terminal and use umount.
To unmount disk images properly, you'd have to use Disk Utility..

If you don't think you have any problems, set your background to a sky blue color cloud image and see if that bothers you. And yes, there's a hack you can do now from your terminal to set the transparency, but it's a nuisance to have to use sudo and type it.

I have an iMac with Leopard and an HP laptop with Vista. I enjoy both computing experiences very much. Photo and video editing along with chatting and music listening on the iMac, internet surfing, word processing and gaming on the HP. I don't see a big deal in recognizing that there are substantial differences in the computing philosophies of Microsoft and Apple. Whichever one suits your needs, whether it be primarily entertainment, or more business oriented, buy it and utilize it. Apple isn't trying to be Microsoft, and Microsoft isn't trying to be Apple.

sad.... just sad.... for the first time ever, I am not pleased with Apple. Leopard, with it I have had more restarts/reboots than my entire history of macs put together.
