Spain Working On Hybrid Airplane-Helicopter

The Spanish National Institute of Aerospace Technology is reportedly working on an unmanned aereal vehicle (UAV) that takes off and lands like a helicopter, but transitions to an airplane for flight, the FIRST-EVER HYBRID UAV SYSTEM. They plan to deploy the flying robot, called HADA, in 2010 and use it to patrol borders and coastlines. They may also build a manned version.
