New Laptop For Doctors Does Ultrasound

Germany's Siemens Medical Solutions unveiled a standard laptop PIMPED FOR ULTRASOUND. The product is "especially designed for mobile applications in cardiology as well as vascular applications and use in the operating room and anesthesiology departments." Branded the Acuson P50, the device adds ultrasound electronics and special software to the laptop, which has two benefits: 1) it's mobile; and 2) doctors can use the same laptop for surfing the Web, doing e-mail and running standard office applications. I want one.

Back in 1998-99 there was a company (i think it was Russian) that manufactured the hardware of a complete ultrasound (US) system so that it could be contained in two 5+1/4 slots of a normal pc and was pluging into the system through PCI. The US system was operated through an MFC application developed by a Greek company.

It was good to see a product like this going mobile by Siemens although i am not sure if it is going to have a positive response from doctors.
