Babies Put In Control of Robotic Vehicles
University of Delaware researchers are experimenting with putting BABIES IN CONTROL OF ROBOTS. The robots are designed to provide, essentially, virtual crawling for babies that for whatever reason can't get around on their own. (Exploring is crucial to baby brain development.) The robot vehicles are outfitted with sensors that detect obstacles -- for example, other babies. If the infant can't get around an obstacle using the joystick, the robot's computer takes over and navigates it with auto-pilot. The researchers are already designing future, more powerful versions. I, for one, welcome our new infant overlords.
