Skilled Legal Immigrants Shafted By Washington

Highly skilled legal immigrants (mostly from India and China) who have followed all laws and "played by the rules" have been IGNORED in the immigration debate. While millions of unskilled illegal immigrants (mostly from Mexico and Central America) pour across the border unchecked, skilled workers who help make Silicon Valley the top engine of innovation in the world and create jobs, wealth and tax revenues, are harassed, ignored, bullied and abused. I have an idea: Let's put a "cap" on the number of unskilled immigrants, and dramatically streamline the process for highly skilled workers to get green cards and citizenship. Or would that make too much sense?

Good point.

Maybe we should just encourage IIT grads from Bangelore who are hired by Silicon Valley companies to fly to Mexico and just hop the fence.

How's that for streamlined?

The system is completely fucked up. People who can't "handle the truth" (borrowing Jack Nicholson's words), will call it FUBR, just to appear polite yet cunning. But, the truth remains the same, the system is fucked up, call it FUBR, foo bar, or whatever, the point remains the same. Comprende? ;-)

Mike, please remove my previous comment dated 10/28 7:30 pm (and of course, this one). I was a DWI (Deigning While Intoxicated) with a full bottle of cabernet at the time. ;-) Thanks.

Employers using the H1-B visa program prefer hiring foreigners to native born Americans. This is discrimination and our government shoyuld stop it.

Why would they prefer to do that? Clearly they're trying to hire the best person for the job.

More to the point, the best policy for American jobs is dramatically increase H1-B visa immigrants. It makes American companies more competitive. If, for example, the best software developers in India aren't allowed to move to the U.S. and work for an American company, then they'll just work for an Indian company and, possibly, drive the American company out of that market -- and the American workers at that American company lose their jobs.

The most selfish, pro-American position is to brain-drain the world, and make the U.S. stronger in talent, innovation and brain power.
