The Myth of the Solar PC

While scanning the news lately, you may have seen the headlines about China's Lenovo and their amazing new "solar-powered PC" product, the ThinkCentre A61e. You may also have heard that Dell will soon announce a solar PC of its own. And didn't solar powered laptops and cell phones come out last year? If you think solar powered desktops, laptops and cell phones are available, you're not alone. Sadly, THEY DON'T EXIST.

Tom's Hardware is running an article series on how to build a solar powered PC (http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/09/06/technical_foundations_diy_solar_powered_pc/index.html). No, it's not commercially available, but the parts are common.

Exactly. You can build your own, but you can't buy one commercially from any major vendor (contrary to popular belief).

You can also hook a PC up to a trailer-pulled generator, but that doesn't mean there's a such thing as the gas-powered PC.
