Google Joins Race to the Moon
China and Russia have announced plans to conduct strip mining on the moon. India wants to open a call center there. And now even GOOGLE HAS A MOON PROGRAM. The search engine company has announced a $30 million prize (contributed to the X-Prize Foundation) to any private company that can land a rover on the moon and perform a list of tasks, including driving around and taking video.

Comments:
Very interesting timing on this one. First Google gets access to NASAs private airstrip for use with their corporate jet, and then they announce this.
In order to get access to the private NASA airstrip google agreed to place instruments for NASA onboard their jet. I wonder if the agreement also allows Google access to the data generated from the instruments.
Google is getting awfully interested in space travel all of a sudden.
Information Week has an article on the NASA Google connection at http://www.informationweek.com/news/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=201806250&subSection=News
They're probably scoping out the moon as a place to store their servers and their money.
