Crab Robot Walks Around Guarding Your House
Hammacher Schlemmer is selling a four-legged CRAB ROBOT that maintains a constant state of suspicious alert. If it sees anything moving, or hears anything, it will investigate, which might freak out burglars and send them running. On the other hand, they might think it's cool and just steal it. as cool as this toy sounds, it just reacts to noise. There's no built in camera, so it doesn't really "see". The eyes are just LEDs that light up the area.. this would be more or less an expensive walking flash light at night :) it looks like it's remote controllable too.
I believe it's a combination of motion detectors and noise detectors. HS has cool toys, but they're always so vague about the products. Does anybody have a better source for details on this thing?

they're just infrared detectors.. the word "detector" implies that it's not as spatially detailed as cmos cameras. only detects motion and heat (according to the site, "size of objects" and edges like doorways).
still, this is pretty impressive. i'd like to attach a webcam to one of these devices, though i'm curious what type of processing power it's capable of..
What if it is hit by magic pixie dust (evil magic pixie dust) and comes to life and becomes an evil human-flesh eating monster that won't leave you house. What then? These things happen. They do! Especially if you watch the SciFi channel as much as I do!
I don't know. if the interest will be to steal robot? it seems to be easy of catches it...
