X-Prize Lunar Lander Destroyed In Giant Crash
The top contender in NASA's $2 million X-Prize competition was destroyed in a HUGE CRASH. Armadillo Aerospace, lead by John Carmack, who created the ID game DOOM, has two entries. The leader, a lander called Texel, was blown to bits this week when during a test landing it suddenly accelerated upward toward a crane. The controller killed the engine, the vehicle dropped, cracked a fuel tank on impact and exploded in flames. The company will now enter its lesser contestant, Pixel.

Oops.
I think I'll take a pass on the whole "space tourism" thing for another few decades.
