Phonograph Tech Used to Amplify iPod Sound
Before iPods, before CDs, before even records, there was the venerable phonograph. The music players of 100 years ago -- the Victrola, Zon-o-phone, Graphophone -- used a tuba-horn shaped bell to amplify sound without electricity. Now, a company called Science + Sons is selling a gadget called the Phonofone II, which works the same way. Simply connect your iPod earbuds to the device, and the ceramic Phonfone AMPLIFIES THE SOUND without electricity into up to 55 decibel "warm, rich and resonant sound." The only downside is the price: $840.
