Viagra Helps Hamsters With Jet Lag

Researchers at Argentina's Quilmes National University have discovered that Viagra reduces the effects of JET LAG IN HAMSTERS, reducing the recovery time. (I didn't even know hamsters had a problem with jet lag.)

Evidently, Viagra interferes with an enzyme that lowers levels of a naturally occurring compound that plays a role in the regulation of the circadian cycle, the body’s internal clock.
According to a fellow named Golombek, hamsters are the species of choice for studies of circadian rhythms. That's because they have precise patterns, which are easily measured by watching when they run on their exercise wheels. ``As anyone who has a hamster as a pet will attest, they go to the wheel at the same time every night,'' Golombek said.
All well & good. What I’d like to understand is why this study used only “Adult male hamsters “. Don’t women suffer from jet lag as well?

I heard this on BBC news (UK). I'm thinking that a viagra-induced erection could be sort of an uncomfortable thing to be burdened with for a plane journey. Or are you supposed to take it after? Or is it a special type of viagra?

Thanks, Jack
