Iran Responds to Movie '300' With Documentary
Iranians have produced a documentary called "Glory of Persepolis" to counter the movie "300," which they believe INSULTED IRAN. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called "300" an example of "psychological warfare" against Iran. He also said:
"American cultural officials thought they could get mental satisfaction by plundering Iran's historic past and insulting this civilization... Following the Islamic Revolution in Iran, Hollywood and cultural authorities in the US initiated studies to figure out how to ATTACK IRANIAN CULTURE. "Certainly, the recent movie is a product of such studies."The movie "300" is BASED ON A COMIC BOOK by Frank Miller loosely based the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C. between 300 Spartan soldiers (and some 700 reinforcements) and close to a million soldiers fighting for the Persian Empire. The movie "Glory of Persepolis" was first proposed by Iran's Cultural Heritage Organization and produced by Parseh Research Foundation.

Comments:
Do not get me started on culture. Iranian culture is something that can not be denied. I am not a big fan of the current Iranian government. But "300" is the most rediculous movie I have ever seen. It is an insult to viewers' inteligence. By the way the persian army was 120,000 not 1 million. Two and a half thousans years after the even, 1 million is alot of solders. Does hollywood really expect us to believe their bu--sh-t.
As has been stated time and time again by the director and others associated with the movie, 300 was never intended to be historically accurate. That was clear while it was still in production. It's meant to be an ultraviolent light show, and it delivered on that. There's nothing deep or meaningful about it. It's made to look cool.
It'd be great if people stopped manufacturing and getting caught up in bogus conspiracy theories.
"American cultural officials" doesn't exist. This is a free country.
"It is an insult to viewers' inteligence." It's a comic book what intelligence are you looking for?
Islamic Iran didn't exist back then so what is the insult??
1rst of all the Spartans where 300 with 700 Thespians. The Persians were 500.000.
2nd The Persian empire was based on what we call today Iran. Read the facts please and eat a cheeseburger
3rd The movie was based on the comic so it was supposed to be this way
*****1rst of all the Spartans where 300 with 700 Thespians.****
And an unknown number of slaves.
*****The Persians were 500.000.****
There is simply zero reliable numbers on the number of people fighting for the Persians, ranging from under 100,000 to 2.4 million. Long story short, it was a huge number of people and we do not know that number. -Mike
Either way, is anyone else amused at a country that can complain about "American Imperialism" out of one side of its mouth while revering its own expansionist past from the other?
Luckily most Americans don't associate Persia with Iran through either ignorance or the way the Roman Empire has very little to do with modern day Italy.
geez,,unbeleaveable....fiction,its like they want to fight.guess we r supose to lose our religion,,and anything else that iratates them.....any thing else u iranians would like to complain about.just like a child.
Simple minds (Iranians) believe simple things (comic books). I don't think there is a single American or Greek (where the movie is wildly popular) believe any of the movie as historical fact. It's just a movie. The same way "Bonnie and Clyde" was fantasy, in no way did the real Bonnie look like glamor-gal Faye Dunaway or Clyde look like Pretty-boy Warren Beatty. It's all fantasy.
What you say is true.. only if the majority of our fellow americans' thoughts were not so directly related to the culture, opinions and genaral imagery of hollywood movies.
The effect of this movie on the subconcious of the general american in response to the word 'persia' is catastrophic.
Just like the identity assasination of the american indians and antagonist heroism of the cowboy. Whereas, the reality of it was the cowboy was a ruthless, murderous invador in the home of an 'american indian'.
With great power comes great responsibility, hollywood must realize that.
