Vista Makes Backups You Can't Restore From

All versions of Microsoft Windows Vista constantly save multiple versions of your data files, so you can use Vista's "Previous Versions" feature to "go back in time" and retrieve them. Isn't that great? Trouble is, according to my friend and former colleague, Dave Methvin, "Previous Versions" isn't available in Vista Home Basic or Vista Home Premium. That's right. The backups are made, but YOU CAN'T RESTORE THEM without going out and buying another, more expensive version of Vista, namely Visa Business, Enterprise, or Ultimate!

I don't have a Home premium to check it out, but I can't believe this is truth.

By the way, David Methvin (the author of the article I link to) is CTO of PC Pitstop, and former executive editor of Windows Magazine. The guy knows what he's talking about. -Mike

This is only one of the problems with the Vista backup function. Besides the fact that it doesn't work correctly in several situations, solutions from the better known third party software vendors are not yet available. All this indicates to me that Vista was shipped too early. Too many problems remain to be discovered, and for whatever reason, major vendors have been slow to deliver products required to overcome Vista deficiencies.
