RFID Tags Keep Sponges Out Of Surgery Patients

Siemens and other companies are starting to embed RFID chips in surgical sponges. Hospitals maintain special RFID readers in operating rooms, which they use to WAND the patients before being rolled out (to make sure no sponges are left inside).

I've seen that RF Surgical Detection has a non RFID being trialed around the country. They are already FDA approved and the cost is low compared to RFID. www.rfsurg.com
