Greenhouse Gas Cam Busts Nasty Emissions

While Al Gore lectures the rest of us to cut greenhouse gas emissions (while he personally produces enough for a dozen Americans), the electric utility companies have their own dirty little secret: A nasty gas called Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6). The gas is used to insulate high voltage equipment. It's odorless, nontoxic, and nonflammable, but just one pound of SF6 has the same impact on global warming as 11 tons of CO2. Enter the new SF6 buster: The GasFindIR-LW from FLIR Systems. This specially developed infrared camera can spot even TINY AMOUNTS OF SF6 in the air, as well as 20 other environmentally harmful gasses.

Back up your bashing of Gore: "while he personally produces enough for a dozen Americans"

I keep hearing that.. and it's called sniping.. give me a footnote at least to see if there is even a mild basis for that crap. jeez.

Thanks, Brian!

Don't mean to snipe. I just think people should literally practice what they literally preach.

Here's some background on my comment about Al Gore contributing to global warming far more than the average American:

everyone (loose generalization whether you be a member of congress or average schmo) always wants to kill the messenger of bad news.
yeah... al gore does use more than his fair share. but so does karl rove, jesse jackson, queen elizabeth, and just about anyone else in the public eye.
but unlike everyone else, turning a blind eye to the destruction of our planet, at least gore is trying to do something about it.

But the guy got on stage at the Oscars in front of a billion people and made a big speech about how all we need is the "will to act." He was accepting an award for a movie about how everyone needs to cut greenhouse gasses. Meanwhile, he's living like a pig with a giant swimming pool, outdoor lights that are on all night, etc. -- literally consuming 12 times the energy of the average American -- and Americans are the biggest consumers in the world.

Don't you think he deserves scorn and ridicule?

Meanwhile, Bush's ranch has been solar powered for years, and uses recycled water for irrigation, etc.

No, I don't think we should shoot the messengers. But we should definitely shoot the hypocrites, figuratively speaking. - Mike

i like the "source" is described as "an obscure conservative think tank"

so you would have al gore bicycling around the globe, using dry, water-free toilets and reading by rechargable LED candlelight?get serious.

they persecuted galileo for telling everyone that the earth revolved around the sun

i guess i'm more cool with the guy that encourages us all to help save the planet than the guy that does the same amount of destruction but turns his back on it all and pretends like it's someone elses problem. (also known as the new american way)

"...turns his back on it all and pretends like it's someone elses problem."

But that's what Gore does. He sells books and movie tickets but his lifestyle far exceeds his needs. Even excluding flights around the world to save it, his home's energy usage has been verified:

I'm totally confused as to why it doesn't bother you that the guy who lectures Americans on cutting electricity use himself uses enough for a dozen American families.

Can you explain why you're OK with that?

There's so much superficiality, misuse of data, and statistic lies all over in public messages, and lately so often from Conservative activists, even if in disguise.
Look at the hard facts, and you can’t ignore Gore’s initiative, even if he comes from the other tribe. Maybe some conservative leader should step in the environment conscious band-wagon – if the party backers allow him...

Al Gore is a peckerhead. He lives in a huge house, and don't forget the private jet. Buys carbon credits (can you say indulgences? I knew you could) from his own company that in turn boosts his company stock. Typical liberal. Always wanting others to sacrifice and accept the pain while King Al and his buddies command from their lofty throne. Oh and did you hear that the poles are melting on Mars too! How did man accomplish that?
