Google's Orkut Banned in India... Sort Of
Google's irrelevant social networking site, Orkut, has been BANNED in the Indian state of Maharashtra because some members made "derogatory references to Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji" (who died in 1680) and also for "obscene posts against Hindu women." The ban appears to be voluntarily imposed by cybercafe owners, who fear "legal hassles." Yeah. I don't get it, either. How about banning Orkut because their are too many $#@!int Brazilians on it? Those Brazilians love the Orkut.

Hey watch it man! There are brazilians like me reading your blog...
What if someone said the same thing about americans and myspace? Don't be like that please...
Anyway, that sucks for Indians...
And others brazilians like me reading :P.... He said just what i was going to say. Orkut is to brasil just like myspace is to americans.
Youtube was blocked here for a few days because of a ex-ronaldo girlfriend video of some sex at the beach, at least they got a better reason.

I have thousands of Brazilian readers, no doubt.
If you're under the impression that my post somehow criticised or insulted Brazilians, then you may not have seen that it was clearly meant as humor -- something obvious to native speakers of English, but probably not so obvious by someone speaking English as a second language.
Anyway, I love the Brazilians and Brazil, speak some Portuguese myself, and have many very close Brazilian friends.
AND... it is funny and unexpected that Orkut is the Myspace of Brazil. I mean, why? And how the heck did that happen?
Mike

That's bollocks. I'm a native speaker of English, and I think the original post did talk about Brazilians derogatorily.
