New WLAN Warning System Coming to All Cars?
DaimlerChrysler has tested the Euro-project 'WILLWARN' (Wireless Local Danger Warning), which gathers info on bad driving conditions (traffic jams, fog, black ice, meteor showers, etc.), and relays warnings PEER-TO-PEER to other cars so the drivers of those cars can slow down or find another route. The system gathers information by monitoring brakes, electronic stability controls and a thermometer. DaimlerChrysler wants to share its technology with all car manufaturers.

Comments:
New definition to WarDriving, next there will be a story about hacking the vehicle peer to peer making drivers change routes, and basically wreaking traffic havoc.
I'm sure there will be plenty of mods available. I wonder if you could cause a nearby vehicle's system to crash and get bad information. Heck, you could clear the interstate by informing all vehicles that the highway is closed and they must all take the next exit! :-)
Seriously, though, I can imagine there will be privacy issues that people will get upset about with this system, passing information from my vehicle to another vehicle. People will get concerned if it'll pass my current speed (15 over?) to the neary police cars. I'm sure Dr. Z will have to address that (and do a commercial on TV about it).
In general, though, I kind of like the idea because it's frustrating to not know there's a traffic clog ahead and you miss your last chance to exit and take a different route.
Peer-2-Peer the fact that there's free beer at XYZ pub at the next exit. That'll clear the freeway pretty fast.
