Toyota's One-Legged Robot A Great Leap Forward

Toyota has developed a 3.3 feet high monopode robot (a robot with just one leg) that can JUMP LIKE A HUMAN (er, a human with one leg...) without the use of a motor using a special joint in its "toe." The robot was developed to prototype the jumping action required for running, which will presumably be put to use in future bipedal robots.

This is a big improvement over an American research of a pogo stick robot, which must constantly be jumping inorder in not fall flat on the ground and never get up again. And it is jumping all over the place to correct itself or to stay in one spot.

A leg on the other hand is more stable and can stand still, just like in the picture. This robot will also help future legged robots with speed in moving faster.
