Robot Navigates Crowds Without Bumping

A robot I told you about in February (which at the time was working as a hotel clerk) from Hitachi and Tsukuba University, called the Excellent Mobility and Interactive Existence as Workmate (EMIEW) robot, has been upgraded with new electronics that enable it to move through crowds of people without MOWING THEM DOWN. EMIEW now has a laser beam on its fricken head to detect the location of obstacles so it can avoid them. The robot's new skills will be demonstrated in October.

Heres a better picture of EMIEW if they (Hitachi) haven't updated the looks of it since last year.
