How to Hack a Voting Machine In 4 Minutes

Two women demonstrated recently how to hack a Diebold voting machine in FOUR MINUTES using $12 worth of tools. The hack involves removing the bogus seals that are suppose to protect the memory card on which the voting data is stored, replacing the memory card with one containing the election results of your choice, then replacing the seals. They then posted step-by-step instructions -- with photos -- telling exactly how to do it.

Scary, especially since physical security is one of Diebold's cornerstones (they make safes, ATMs, etc - in case you did not know). Kind of makes you wonder what kind of "electoral security" Diebold is in the business of selling.

There is the small matter of not getting noticed while you rig the machines. But I suppose with election budgets being so tiny, security will be lax at the locations where these machines are stored.

I can't wait to elect Zippy the Pinhead and Dennis the Menace at the the top of the CA ticket this fall!

Wanna know how long it takes to throw ballot boxes into the bay? Just ask Frisco.
You might even do as enterprising ATM bandit and put false fronts on real machines to steal numbers and PINs.
And ask any sorter pro how to rewire the sorter to change the count of paper ballots.
I want Dibold to take a look at validating registration, where the real election cheating goes on, as in the last Washington State election.

As if it matters if they're Democrats or Republicans, sheesh that's a stupid comment! Needing everyony to fit into two camps, and your camp is good and the other is evil is why the security of the voting machines is so important. They could be moderate centrists who vote for canidates they like rather than evil idiots that vote for a partisan label on issues they don't even try to understand.

There is a small matter of having to know how many people had voted on the machine........number of ballots voted has to match number of people checking in. Plus, all machines are to be in sight - this would be a little difficult to do without being noticed. Paper ballots can be messed with, too, if one really wanted to. I work in election's....most people haven't a clue the steps involved to make sure votes are secure.
