Teen Ringtone Too High-Pitched For Teachers

Teen geeks have retro-fitted a sound called the Mosquito alarm -- normally only heard by people under the age of 20 and developed as an irritant to drive teens away from hangout spots at malls -- and made it a ringtone. Now all the kids in class can hear cell phones, which have been banned in most classrooms, but the teachers can't. The ring tone is called TEEN BUZZ, and it's spreading like wildfire via SMS and Bluetooth.

I did some more research on it, and found out that it actually works, if you want a copy of the mp3 go here
http://www.hifiaktiv.at/diverses/testfrequenzen.htm
and click on any from 16khz to 18khz.
If you are over 20, and can hear it, adjust the equalizer on your media player. If this doesnt work you must have incredibly good hearing.

***dont play it to loud or you'll damage your hearing!***

teachers could easily strike back. simply place a powered speaker close to the centre of the class and say every time its interferred with by the sms signal extra homework will be given.

Do you mean by using the same ringtone on the speaker and playing it every time someone uses their cellphone? I can here it, and i'm 21. And I swear that is the most god forsaken sound I ever heard! It would damage their ears to badly.

qoute: Teachers could easily strike back..., I'm kinda doubting that since schools can't even afford new text books how can they afford a set of 100+ speakers?

I'm almost 31 and I can hear it fine. Reminds me of those hearing tests they give during physicals. Very annoying.

it's quite funny to be sitting in class and everyone around you immediately duck and cover their ears, while our unaware teachers continue on typing up grades...much thanks to whoever decided to do this.

Lmao, the first time I heard it was in Core... Some guy put his cellphone on speakerphone and put it up against another phone that was ringing, with the mosquito thing... All the girls 'cept for me started screaming cos it was so loud, and the guys were all cringing and the teacher was like "What?! WHAT'S GOING ON?!"

On that one link for the German site I could hear all the way up to the 20kHz and I'm 24....the cut off is definitely closer to 30. They actually talk about this on one episode of Law and Order SVU. The tv shows mentions the age of 30 being the cut off.

Actually, ultrasonic ringtones made an episode of Law and Order the original (Avatar from season 17). It that episode ADA Connie Rubirosa (Alana De La Garza) is revealed to be able to hear the mosquito ringtone- which she refers to as a bumblebee ringtone- when a teenage girl/suspect/accomplice’s cell phone rings (with the mosquito ringtone) and Connie asks her if she’s going to answer it. I believe it made Law and Order CI as well since there has been mention of Detective Wheeler (Julianne Nicholson) being able to hear it.

I’m not sure it was on Law and Order SVU (I’m a faithful fan of that one and I don’t recall hearing it about it on that show).
