Latest Job Taken By Robots: Scarecrow
Computer science and engineering students at the University of South Florida in Tampa have created an INTELLIGENT SCARECROW that uses a computer, Internet camera and imaging software to detect and identify birds that gather to prey on fish farms -- then it scares them away with threatening noises and 30-foot water jets. It can even send e-mail to warn farmers about bird infestations. The scarecrow won't try to shoo away anyone wearing an orange vest. (I wonder how long it will take the birds to figure this out?)
