Japan's New High-Tech Money Has 'Typo'
Japan's National Printing Bureau announced today that 39,500 of the country's newly redesigned 1,000-yen bills, which feature sophisticated security features that prevent counterfeiting, contain ERRORS that prevent vending machines from reading them. Authorities won't specify what the typo is, but say banks will exchange them free of charge despite their obvious collector's value.

Oops, so much for testing. ;-(
The picture you're using is the old 1000 yen bill.
A picture's worth a thousand yen. Teedle deedle dee!
FYI - current rate of exhange places 1000jpy at a little less then 10usd.
who the fuck uses a thousand yen to buy shit out of a vending machine anyways
The japanese, that's who. Used panties don't come cheap.
Considering that everything below 1000yen is a coin, most people use the 1000yen bill in vending machines.
And here I have been getting pissed at DyDo for not taking my bills.... I NEED my corn soup in a can!
Using 1000 yen notes in vending machines is normal, and the drinks machine around the corner from here accepts 5000 and 10,000 yen notes as well...
This is such a cash society - my bank lets you withdraw 500,000 yen at a time from the ATMs. That's nearly $5,000...
Lol thats a bit of a bummer.
Oh well! I'm sure they will just print more
who cares?
