Pentagon Planning Remote-Controlled Insect Army

Pentagon scientists are working to create a part-bug, part machine INSECT ARMY that can be remotely controlled. Micro-electronics would be inserted into the pupa of dragonflies or moths. The idea is that the bugs would grow around the electronics and carry them inside for life. The electronics might control the direction of flight, or sense chemicals, then transmit that data to nearby troops.

Will it be illegal to kill the bugs as they are "government property?" Will people now be afraid to kill butterflies lest The Man throw them in the slammer?

We can get along with it well. Maybe this can help wiith the Killer Bees.

Waht about the anonymous comment. Who kills butterflies?

Sounds like a terrible waste of tax payers monies. If it is for military needs, ai would ratherr invest into laser beam techonology and protect our boarder. Oh, already working on that I see. The mexican Baorder "Laser Wall" to stop willing and able mexicans to come do the work here in America...that of which we Americans have become to fat and slack to do.....no hard to spy of fat slack people....that is what the terroists are doing....God help us all!

This brings a new meaning to "Big Brother Is Always Watching" its the next step to becomming George Orwells "1984". Once the military gains access to control animals to spy on the enemy, what and who is going to stop them from spying on people in their homes. This is a horrible Idea. Whats with Man-kind and their ever growing hunger for control and power?

Its a bit far fetched but once we proceed to manipulate other animals how long before we create a system with AI which becomes aware of its exsistance and sends our creations to eliminate us. I don't know about you but I don't want to have my life ended by an insect.

That fellow who doesn't wish to be killed by an insect had better avoid the tropics.
Hasn't he heard of one of the most common killer diseases .. Malaria

There is a certain irony here, taking one of 'God's' most beautiful creations and shoving a chip in it (I'm sure it won't hurt) to aid them in their ugly wars.
Next thing you know, they'll invent Land Mines so you really can't walk on the grass.
Oops, too late!
