Now Big Brother Is Watching the Police
Charleston, South Carolina, police squad cars have been outfitted with GPS. The department's PR flaks are putting a happy face on the technology, emphasizing that the GPS recievers will enable the department to select the closest car whenever there is an emergency call (a giant screen back at HQ will show the locations of all cars on a map), and also that officers will get spoken, turn-by-turn directions to any location. But it also means that every officer will be TRACKED every minute of every day, with exact location and speed monitored, which will help Internal Affairs investigate complaints of police abuse.

It. Is. About. Freaking. Time!
This is a common thing in most police cars, it is called AVL (automatic vehicle locator)and is integrated with dispatch computers to provide for closest unit response and officer safety. Yes, it can be an issue that some cops don't like, but that is only a few that have a reason to worry. If they are doing the right thing, as most do, then they have nothing to worry about.
