How to Steal a Car, Chinese-Style
China has lately gained a reputation as a nation of first-rate intellectual property thieves, creating identical consumer electronics devices nearly indistinguishable from the originals (and, in some cases, even shipping before the original ships). Now, American, European and Japanese car companies are discovering the emergence in China of COPYCAT LUXURY CARS AND SUVs, including a replica Rolls-Royce Phantom, a duplicate Chevrolet Matiz and even a copy of a Nissan Frontier even a FERRARI!. Despite the obviousness of the rip-off, car companies are hesitant to do anything about it. They fear that making waves will get them on the bad side of the Communist Party in China, which has the power to blacklist companies and prevent them from doing business there. They've also been scared away by the experiences of Toyota and Honda, which sued copycat companies in China, only to face judges clearly biased in favor of the Chinese companies.
