Flying Car: Buy One At Neiman Marcus

The Moller M400 Skycar, a vertical take-off and landing personal aircraft, has been in the works since the 1960s. Now you can buy one. In the NEIMAN MARCUS catalog, of all places, for a cool $3.5 million. The Skycar goes 350 MPH and is, according to Moller, as easy to operate as a car. Like some people I know, it operates on pure alcohol. (Oddly, what they're selling are prototypes. But if they're selling it, isn't that a shipping product?) For the record, I don't see this product unfolding as Moller claims it will. The idea is that it's a flying car for everyday use. But obviously you'll need at least a pilot's license to operate it, and you'll have to fly it out of airports, rather than from your driveway. Just because someone built an awesome personal hovering aircraft doesn't mean that vehicle is exempt from all the safety issues inherent in flying machines -- weather and visibility, obstacle avoidance, air traffic control and airspace rules to name a few. In any event, here comes the VIDEO!

It looks like it might have just bombed an oil well.
